LA SAFE—Louisiana’s Strategic Adaptations for Future Environments Parish-wide Meetings

July 14, 2017 Comments Off on LA SAFE—Louisiana’s Strategic Adaptations for Future Environments Parish-wide Meetings

The parishwide meetings will allow residents to begin the process of drafting strategies based on the feedback generated during the community-meeting process. This will lead to the design of specific parishwide adaptation strategies with at least one project, program or policy that would be funded through LA SAFE—a planning initiative coordinated by the Louisiana Office of Community Development’s (OCD) Disaster Recovery Unit, in partnership with Foundation for Louisiana’s Coastal Resilience Leverage Fund. The LA SAFE planning process will conclude with the final adaptation of a plan for each parish by the end of 2017.

Residents can follow the planning process and receive updates on the LA SAFE initiative at LASAFE.la.gov, the LA SAFE Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram (all @livelasafe).

A full list of the upcoming parishwide meetings is below. All meetings are 6 – 8 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Food will be provided. Anyone requiring special assistance to participate in a meeting, or who requires childcare or transportation to attend, should contact Foundation for Louisiana at 504.517.5292 at least five working days prior to the meeting.

NOTE: If you’d like to let us know that you’re coming, click on the link to the meeting’s time and venue below; that will take you to the Facebook event page for that meeting.

SCPDC hosted an information session on the Census Bureau’s Local Update to Census Addresses (LUCA)

July 13, 2017 Comments Off on SCPDC hosted an information session on the Census Bureau’s Local Update to Census Addresses (LUCA)

SCPDC hosted an information session on the Census Bureau’s Local Update to Census Addresses (LUCA) operation on Wednesday, June 12th. Representatives from five member parish and organizations attended the meeting at SCPDC while Census Bureau personnel reviewed the benefits of the program and the need for the Census Bureau to obtain an accurate address list prior to the 2020 Census. Over $400 billion dollars are distributed by the federal government to the states and local communities each year based on Census counts. According to calculations by George Washington University, not counting a single household made up of four individuals can mean a loss of $80,840 dollars to a local community over the next ten years. The LUCA operation is an important opportunity for local governments to ensure that the Census’ address database is accurate and correct.

Please contact Joshua Manning (josh@scpdc.org) for more information on how your community can participate in the LUCA program. Please also take a moment to view the LUCA PowerPoint .
