Community Development

Among the many services and cooperative endeavors offered to member communities, SCPDC staff can assist in the preparation and administration of the State’s competitive Louisiana Community Development Block Grant (LCDBG) Program.  This program funds water, wastewater, and road improvements in low to moderate-income neighborhoods. The LCDBG program also provides assistance for funding of emergency and economic development related activities.

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

Louisiana Division of Administration administers CDBG funds to communities. There are two main programs.

The CDBG-DR program funds are dedicated to communities after a federally declared disaster to assist in disaster-related projects to help the community recover quickly.

The LCDBG program funds water, wastewater and road improvements in low to moderate income neighborhoods. This program also provides assistance for funding of emergency and economic development related activities.

Region 6 Watershed Initiative

In March and August 2016, Louisiana experienced two historic rain events that produced trillions of gallons of rainwater. The rising floodwaters reached more than 145,000 homes throughout the state, leaving behind an estimated $10 billion in damage and resulting in recovery efforts that will take years to complete. In August 2019, the Council on Watershed Management agreed to use eight watershed regions as a starting point to coordinate efforts among parishes and distribute project funds. South Central Planning and Development Commission is the fiscal agent for Region 6. Contact Pat Gordon at pat@scpdc.org for more information regarding Region 6’s Watershed Initiatives.
