Public Notice: SCPDC Launches Virtual Kickoff Meeting for SS4A Safety Action Plan

November 15, 2023 Comments Off on Public Notice: SCPDC Launches Virtual Kickoff Meeting for SS4A Safety Action Plan

The South Central Planning and Development Commission (SCPDC) is developing a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan to improve roadway safety by significantly reducing or eliminating roadway fatalities and serious injuries for all users including motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and public transit riders. Understanding and prioritizing the safety needs of those in the Assumption, Lafourche, and Terrebonne Parish area is the first step in delivering a plan that provides maximum benefit to the traveling public. And we’d like to hear from you!

Please join us for a virtual kickoff meeting on November 30, 2023 from 10:00 – 11:00 am. Your feedback will help inform planners as the study progresses.

The SS4A Safety Action Plan will identify a wide array of risk factors related to transportation fatalities and injuries including the following:

– speeding

– impaired driving

– nonuse of motorcycle helmets, seat belts, and child restraints

– distracted driving

– unsafe road infrastructure

– lack of bike-ped infrastructure

– sub-optimal safety policies

The SS4A Safety Action Plan is funded by a grant from the US Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. It is expected to be completed by Summer of 2024 and will allow SCPDC and member governments to apply for implementation of capital construction grant funds through the federal discretionary grant program.

We will provide notice of additional opportunities for you to be engaged in the development of this critical project through email invitations such as this. Should you have question, please don’t hesitate to contact Joshua Manning at josh@scpdc.org or 985.851.2900.
