The South Central Safe Community Partnership (SCSCP) is staffed by the South Central Planning and Development Commission (SCPDC). The officers and members of this regional coalition meet on the 3rd Thursday of the middle month of each quarter. The Executive Meeting is at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Partnership Meeting at 9:30 a.m. In 2011, the meetings are scheduled on February 17, May 19, August 18 and November 17. A major conference called the “Traffic Safety Summit” is conducted every year to address important transportation issues around the region.

The SCSCP was originally established through the Safe Community Grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC)in October 1999. This is the 11th year of funding media campaigns and programs that support the Safe Community Action Plan.

The SCSCP was developed for the express purpose of establishing a Safe Community Fund, Action Plan and Media Campaign designed to focus on highway safety needs in the South Central Region of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist and Terrebonne. The Safe Community’s bottom-up approach is one way to get concerned citizens together to promote traffic fatality and injury prevention activities at the local level.

SCSCP administers the Safe Community Sub-grants that help sustain successful safety projects initiatiated by local agencies in the South Central Region which are in need of alternative funding sources and whose goals match the priorities stipulated in the SCSCP Action. The Sub-grant funds may also be used to assist in the creation of new efforts focusing on emphasis areas that are not yet addressed by existing programs. Although they may change based on crash data, SCSCP’s current priorities are on occupant protection, impaired driving, young drivers and motorcycle safety.

To be part of the South Central Safe Community Partnership, you may contact rudynah@scpdc.org or call (985) 851-2900.
